The Horizon of Hope facilities
We started the building in spring 2008. We purchased the land for our building in 2005; however, the extensive paperwork involved with building in Romania has made for a slow proces. Please visit our blog for updates.
The Horizon of Hope building will house the host family as well as 18-20 students. The host family will stay in an apartment created within the building, and students will stay two per room. The v-shape design allows for a boys’ area and a girls’ area, with four bedrooms in one side and 5 in the other side. With 750 square meters, or approximately 8000 square feet, the building will also house a dining/study area, two staff offices, and a full kitchen with cellar.

In order to complete construction quickly and save money, we have chosen to hire a construction firm. The firm, a Romanian company, will use insulated concrete forms (ICFs -www.argisol.com), a new building material of extruded styrofoam inside poured concrete forms. ICFs create very efficient buildings, which should help keep heating costs as low as possible.

After completion of the Horizon of Hope building, we hope to add additional outbuildings as time and funds permit. We envision a computer area, an auto mechanics area, and a carpentry area. Students who study agriculture will be able to work on nearby land owned by friends of Horizon of Hope. We hope teams of volunteers will help us construct these buildings.
